Shift Group modernizes Big River Steel’s digital infrastructure with a new intelligent web platform

Bécancour, March 18, 2026 — Shift Group is proud to announce the renewal of a major contract with Big River Steel (BRS), a U.S. Steel subsidiary acquired by Nippon Steel in June 2025. This strategic project will support the modernization of their technological infrastructures. This multi‑million‑dollar mandate once again confirms BRS’s confidence in Shift Group’s highly specialized expertise in the steel industry. This new phase of collaboration aims to transform the current manufacturing management system into a modern web platform: more robust, more flexible, and better aligned with BRS’s forward‑looking vision.

A project focused on growth and smart manufacturing

The mandate includes:

  1. Full modernization to a web platform

The existing solution, developed by Shift Group over the years, will be migrated to a modern web platform to improve performance, security, scalability, and collaboration across mill teams.

  1. Technological preparation for a potential third mill

The software architecture will be fully redesigned to enable rapid and scalable deployment should a third production site open.

  1. Future integration of artificial intelligence models

The partnership includes laying the technological foundations for integrating AI models aimed at supporting a smart mill, including:

  • Real‑time production optimization
  • Performance prediction
  • Automated analytics
  • Quality improvement
  1. Ongoing long‑term support

The renewal includes continued application support and system evolution to ensure stability, performance, and ongoing innovation.

  1. A dedicated team of four specialized experts

The project brings together a team of four Shift Group specialists with expertise in software architecture, development, business analysis, and technological integration.

Yannick Paradis, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (Shift Group); Rob, Full Stack Developer (BRS); Yannick Rondeau, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (Shift Group); Francis Rondeau, President (Shift Group); and Charlie, IT Manager (BRS).

A strengthening strategic collaboration

“This major renewal confirms the strength of our partnership with Big River Steel and their trust in our ability to support them in large‑scale digital transformation projects. The migration to a web platform and the preparation for AI integration mark a pivotal step toward the smart mill of tomorrow.”

Yannick Paradis, vice-président et analyste d'affaires, Groupe Shift

Upcoming event

To support its growth and further this momentum, Shift Group will officially open its renovated offices during a special event on March 18. The company will welcome partners, clients, and media in a space fully redesigned for innovation.
